Summer Holiday Break

On our drive home from school today Master Six and I were discussing the upcoming School Holidays and what things he would love to do during his first Summer Holiday Break from Big School...
Master Six (Master Five then) at Port Noarlunga Beach
January 2015
Yes I will be working over the Holidays 😥but on our days off together, I really would love to do things that will challenge him but also a bunch of things he really wants to do!
These are his thoughts on activities he wants to do:
1. Paper Planes
Master Six flying Paper Planes

  • Watch the movie again - a bit favourite in our house
  • Research how to make paper planes
  • See how far we managed to fly them
2. Do some experiments with water, string and bottles... I wonder what that may entaile!

3. Learn how to make a movie, post it on youtube and manage a youtube account... Something he has wanted to do for a long time... It's about time we try and learn how to make a film or two, or he will nag us to death....

4. Go to the movies, below is a list of the potentials films we may see...

25 things to do in summer

Summer is just around the corner (tomorrow) and I can't wait till the weather get warmer and I can hit the beach in the early morning or late evening with my Hubby and Master Six...

To help the Egg Turners get outdoors we will be working through  Nature Play SA 25 Things to do in Summer List over the 13 weeks of summer.
Normanville December 2012

  1. Explore a reef or rockpool and see how many sea creatures you can spot!
  2. Enjoy a picnic by a river or under the shade of a tree
  3. Pick your own summer fruit at an orchard, farm, or in a backyard
  4. Get up early and go for a bushwalk, listening and spotting wildlife along your way!
  5. Make a nature craft decoration to hang from the Christmas tree
  6. Make a sand sculpture and decorate it with natural treasures
  7. Boogeyboard or bodysurf on a wave – see if you can spot any dolphins!
  8. Visit a Nature Play SA Park of the Month
  9. Play frisbee at the beach or in a park
  10. Watch the sunrise or sunset at a natural place
  11. Go fishing or yabbying
  12. Plant a summer garden or pot plant (try strawberries, lettuce and cucumbers!)
  13. Kayak or stand-up-paddleboard on a river, lake or the sea
  14. Do the ‘cockle twist’ along a sandy shore – feel the waves lap against your feet, find the cockles with your toes, then see if you can scoop them up!
  15. Go camping and look up at the night sky (head somewhere wild or pitch a tent in your own backyard!)
  16. Create a summer nature play journal to record your adventures and natural finds
  17. Scrunch dry leaves, bark, or seedpods in your hands and listen to the sounds they make
  18. Water your summer garden first thing in the morning or as the sunsets – what changes can you notice from the day before?
  19. Snorkel at the beach and see what lies beneath the surface!
  20. Create a nature bracelet - loosely wrap a strip of masking tape around your wrist (sticky-side out) and attach things like flowers, leaves and grass from the garden
  21. Discover the world at dusk! Head out for a walk with your family, and see what you can discover as day turns to night!
  22. Find 10 different coloured shells or leaves
  23. Run through a sprinkler without getting wet - or get totally wet on a slip and slide!
  24. Go on an outdoor adventure with your family over the weekend – can you find a new natural place to explore?
  25. Make homemade iceblocks or lemonade and enjoy them outside on a hot day!
